Knox County marriage record, 1871-1875

Description: The exterior cover for this book is a tan canvas material, probably covering the original cover. There are spots and stains evident. Inside the cover, the end-sheets are of a green, then black marble design before the index begins. The years of marriages covered in the Knox County marriage book C-8 is from 1871-1875. The size of the book is 12” x 18” and about 3” thick. There are three blank pages before the index of 71 pages begins. Each index page contains four columns: grooms name, the word “to”, brides name and the page number on which that information can be found. The index pages themselves show some deterioration, especially in the alphabetic. There are 71 index pages, some of which are blank. Following the index, the marriage documents are displayed with two couples to a page, each couple being represented by two documents; a marriage license and marriage certificate. The pages are pre-printed forms with spaces for names and dates to be filled in by hand. The pages are numbered with a stamp in the upper outside corner beginning with 1 and ending with 558. Each couple’s documents are also numbered, but no sequence for those numbers is readily recognizable. The book ends as it began with three blank pages and end-sheets sporting a black, then a green marble pattern.
