Knox County court record for State of Indiana vs. Harry Springer, 1829

Description: Folder 3695 in Box 67 of the Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House contains two documents in the case of State of Indiana vs. Harry Springer. On May 20, 1829 Springer, a man of color was accused of larceny said to have been committed upon the property of H.D. Wheeler and David Webb. The Associate Judge N.P.Price heard testimony from witnesses and gave a recognizance notice to Springer of $25.00, stating that he examined the witnesses and believed the defendant to be guilty. He ordered Springer to appear in court in August of that year to answer the charges. The two documents in the folder are the recognizance order showing that the payment was made, and the statement from Price with witness names on the back of the document
