Description:	Knox County Marriage Record Index Book 4 1838-1854 This group of documents is in two parts. The first appears to be the original index. It is loose pages in a manila folder. The second is in a plastic envelope and is typewritten pages that appear to be from the mid-twentieth century. These records are being posted together as the original pages will be of little or no use without the typewritten versions.The original handwritten pages show large amounts of deterioration. Some are out of order while others are missing the far left side of the page and consequently fail to display the first letters of the last name of the groom. While the names of the grooms are indexed under each alphabetical letter, within those letters the names appear in chronological order and not alphabetical order. Further, several of the pages are missing. The names are followed by page numbersThe typewritten index is in alphabetical order and page numbers follow for each name. Thus, the typewritten index is included with the handwritten index.There are 19 original handwritten pages for this index. Their condition is extremely poor. Some pages are on white paper while others appear to be on a light blue paper. The pages are approximately 7” x 12” many edges are missing and some pages appear to have been repaired with tape. Each page has two columns and each column displays the name of the man and the woman separated by the word “to” and followed by a page number. The listings are placed in sections according the first letter of the groom’s last name, within those sections the names are not in alphabetical order. Some letters of the alphabet appear to be missing, while other letters may have names beginning with different letters in that section.The typewritten pages are in 10”x 12” plastic envelope with what appears to be the front cover of a beige paper folder that housed them. The front cover has a label that reads “INDEX, MARRIAGE RECORD, Book 4, 1838-1854.”Each typewritten sheet is arranged in two columns and each column lists a man’s name, a woman’s name and a page number. The names are arranged in alphabetical order. The pages are typed on one side only. There are 26 pages.
