Description: |
Wilna S. Pancost opened this electrically-powered flour and feed mill in 1904. He had worked at the Beardsley Flour Mill for many years. Before the Beardsley Mill was torn down, Pancost purchased machinery for his own mill. The Pancost Milling Company was located on the north side of Wolf Avenue between Thirteenth and Fourteenth streets. It was a three-storied structure with a basement and approximately 10,000 square feet of floor space. In the city, three wagons conducted business house to house, while products were also shipped to cities throughout the United States. Wilna and his sons Ernest, Clarence, and L.G. operated the business, milling flour and feed until 1932 when the company was listed as a cereal manufacturer. It is important to note that, with the advent of electricity, milling operations were no longer limited to riverside locales. The Pancost Milling Company boasted some of the most modern equipment and processing techniques for its time. |
