Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) Callers asks about condition of injured firemen, none seriously injured, two already released from hospital. 2) Caller wants to know if theres danger of the explosion spreading north, dispatcher doesnt know. 3) Caller informs dispatcher that a radar car has no radio at Hillside at Roosevelt. 4) Claypool Hotel Tavern, Washington St. heart attack. Engine 19 sent to respond. 5) United Press and National called for information on explosion. Dispatcher cant give him any information yet. 6) Caller asks how far east and west residences on hillside are being evacuated. 7) Caller asks if they need to turn off their gas on Ewing near Allisonville and Kessler. 8) Caller asks if anyone has been evacuated from the 2600 block of (unclear). Dispatcher says they havent heard of evacuations, which are being handled by police department. 9) 1013 N Marley, heart attack, oxygen needed. Engine 9 sent to assist. 10) Caller asks for police department, trouble at 25th and Hillside, lives at 2628 N LaSalle but hasnt been notified about evacuations, dispatcher says if she hasnt been notified she doesnt need to evacuate 11) Chief Ward Storm(?), calls to inform dispatch where he is for dinner. 12) Caller cant locate Village Place Dr. or Linwood Ct. Dispatcher gives directions. 13) District 2 asks about engine 12 location, theyre at 32nd and Schofield, district 2 asks if theyve eaten, which they havent since noon. 14) Bill Jackson calls, asks to be transferred to the 14s, discussion about the explosion. 15) John Trimhope has a phone hooked up at the scene of the explosion. 16) Caller asks if the fire department can help with a flooded family room, dispatcher recommends he call a plumber. 17) Caller wonders if the 2900 block of Manlove is in danger of explosions, dispatcher assures her the area is clear. 18) Caller asks if 3317 E 26th is in danger of explosions and are any volunteers needed, dispatcher thinks danger is over. 19) Officer Peters in IPD asks for addresses of Captain Haley, Fireman Elliot. Recording ends at 6:53 PM.
