This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) Issues with a handset, hindering dispatch communication. 2) Any idea how many lines used at 25th and Keystone, dispatcher says they dont know yet. 3) Chief Hanley asks dispatch to inform gas company they can turn the gas back on. Dispatcher passes message to gas company. 4) Dispatcher makes several calls to ascertain how many lines were used to fight explosions and flush gas out of sewers around 25th and Hillside. 5) John Wyatt at Metro(?), on their way to 25th and Keystone with supplies, asks how many firemen were still there. Dispatcher recommends he call police. 6) Calls about supplies used to extinguish fire and flush gas from sewers continue. 7) Basement fire at 2251 N LaSalle, Engine 21 and 27, Truck 27, District 2 sent to respond. 8) United Press International calls asking for information on explosions, asks about injured firemen. Capt. Gene Haley had a ruptured ear drum. 9) Fire at 8140 Kerrington Dr. on southside in Perry Twonshop, dispatcher calls Perry Township to respond.10) Caller asks if its safe to return home to the 2600 block of Hillside, dispatcher assures her danger is past.
