The file includes the transcript of Thomas Jones vs Louis Lagrave written by Robert Buntin. Jones is suing Lagrave on a plea of Trespass. In a declaration by his lawyer, General William Johnson, Legrave is indebted to the plaintiff in the sum of one hundred eight-eight liver and ten soles (forty-seven dollars). He has refused to pay the Plaintiff when requested. On February 13, 1798 a Writ of Capias common was issued by Pierre Gamelin for Louis Lagrave and he was taken into custody by Christopher Wyant, Sheriff. In court, Louis Lagrave stated he could not deny the account. The court assessed him the following costs: Protheorrys fees $2.30; Sheriffs fee $1.20; jailers fee for boarding $27.11, debt (confessed) $45.87 1/2, court fees $.77 Totaling $77.26. Where upon it is ordered and considered by the court that the said Louis Legrave be bound to serve the said Thomas Jones for and during the time of five hundred and sixty six days to satisfy the said debt and sots agreeable to a law of the territory in such case made and provided on this said debt. |
