Jean Baptist Tabeau vs. Toussaint Dubois, adm of Darguilleur

Description: Court Transcript written by Robert Buntin, regarding the case of Jean Baptist Tabeau suing the administrator of Jean Darguilleurs estate, Toussaint Dubois. A summons was issued for Toussaint Dubois, administrator of Darguilleur dit Jean Pierre, dec and Jean Meuneir, dec. A Writ for a Plea of Trespass was for three thousand dollars, and was witnessed by Pierre Gamelin on November 11, 1797. Writ was returned by Christopher Wyant, Sheriff. The Writ of Trespass was based on a promissory note signed by Derquilleur dit Jean Pierre and Jean Meuneir. The note read In the beginning of the month of June next the promise to pay to the order of Jean Baptist Tabeau the sum of eleven thousand two hundred and forty-eight livres, five sols antient money of Quebeck for value received. Michelimakinac, 8th July 1794. The note had not been paid. The Defendant, Toussaint Dubois, did not appear in court, the Court ordered that the Defendant appear at the next Term at his cost. Jurors: Joseph Baird, Benjamin Reed, Philip Dejon, Allen Ramsey, Jacob Thorn, John Blackburn, Pierre Lature, Nicholas Fortin, Laurent Jereau, John Robins, Peter Fredrick and Louis Brazan. The Pliantiffs lawyer was General William Johnston, the Defendents lawyer was Henry Hurst. The verdict: we of the jury find for the Plaintiff one thousand three hundred and twenty-one dollars and ninety seven cents.
