James Patton vs Jonathan Conger

Description: File contains numerous documents regarding the James Patton vs Jonathan Conger suit of a plea of Trespass on a Case of Covenant Broken. Jonathan Conger sold James Patton one hundred acres of land for the sum of fifty pounds Virginia currency. Conger stated that he received this tract of land as a result of a government donation grant for serving in the military. The Conveyance occurred May 5, 1794 and was witnessed by William Biddell, Aaron Day, and Christopher Wyant. Conger has a declaration of how he got the land and the improvements he made on the property a the fork of the White River. James Patton represented by General William Johnston declared that when he went to the Office to get the patent on the land, he was told Conger never owned the land. Warrants, bonds and transcripts written by Robert Buntin are included in the file.
