Knox County court record for State of Indiana vs. Smith, 1821

Description: Folder 2835 in Box 50 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House holds two documents in the case of State of Indiana vs. William Smith, 1821. This case was one of larceny against Smith, a man of color who was accused of stealing two pair of hind wagon gears worth $25.00, one link of tongue chains worth $2.00, one pair of spreaders worth $5.00, and one pair of double trees, worth $5.00 from the property of Nathaniel Ewing. Documents in the folder are the indictment for larceny and warrant for his arrest. On the back of the arrest warrant is a statement from John Decker that Smith was not found.
