Knox County court record for White vs. Smith, third folder, 1821

Description: Folder 2737 in Box 49 of Knox County Circuit Court records at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House holds two documents in the case of White vs. Smith (part 3). This case is ongoing from folders 2733 and 2734 in Box 48. The case was a debt litigation by Charles White who won an earlier court ruling on 12-11-1820 against William Smith, a man of color stating that Smith would have to pay $17.50 plus interest and also court costs.White had claimed in the earlier that he knew Smith owned property for which he could sell to pay his debt. Smith never paid and was not found to be residing in Knox County. For the third time White goes back to court. Once again the court notified the sheriff in a letter containing details of the court ruling and to find Smith. Yet again the sheriff returns the letter and informs the court that Smith does not reside in Knox County. The two documents in the file are an updated letter to the sheriff and a copy of the original transcript of the December hearing.
