Members of all the gym classesmay take this as a reminder that classesare operating as usual, so lets all startcoming to class regularly. That coldspell didn t help matters any. Thosewho braved the elements found the aymabout 32 ° above. Sorry but I couldnthelp it. It did help make us a bit moreactive out there though. The many who saw the ChristmasExhibition commended me on the finework. Thanks all •Jf you, but the creditbelongs to each and every member ofmy classes who was out there strivinghis or her best to please you, and Imhappy to say that they did . I am proudof them all and I know that they shallcontinue to give the same fine performances.Because of the conditions today, Icant help but add this bit to my monthlyreport. Hundreds of years ago thefirst democratic government, which wasthat of the Greeks, laid the foundationof physical education and perfection ofher peoples. They didn t train theirchildren to be soldiers as the Spartansdid, but trained them to be athletes.Due to this stress, they came as nearto physical perfection as is possible andso when their despotic enemies attemptedto vanquish them, they always foundit a tough proposition. Why? Becausethe Greeks were stronger? Yes, in away, but more so because they were aunified nation because of their beliefsand because they were better able tocoordinate what abilities they did haveto t ~ e best advantage. And now we, too,are m the same fix. Our enemies wish todefeat us. Can they? NO! Each andevery one of us knows within our heartsthey can t and won t.Today, even though the method ofbattle is changed, we all are in the frontline of battle. The best way to equipourselves against the inevitable is totrain our bodies to be able to cope withYOU GET THE BEST-WHEN YOU BUYKUSS BUTTERNUTBREADJan., 1942the sit;iation. This can be done best byattendmg some physical educationclasses somewhere and equip yourselvesso that you, too, can help if the needfor it ever comes. The Government realizes the potentialitiesof physical education and hasset up a nation-wide campaign tostrengthen the United States. You allhave the opportunity to cooperate solets do our part and Turn with theSouth Bend American Turners.Bye,TeacherNEWS ABOUT OUR TURNERSIN SERVICEThe Holidays gave a few of our Soldiersa furlough. Such skill inhandling a ball has never been seen inTurner Hall befo re. The ball gameseemed pretty well in hand at first, but atthe end of the game the scoreboard readRed Devils 82, Turners 32. This, ofcourse, is the worst beating we have hadup to date; but we asked for it and youknow the answer.Resuming play after the Holidays; wewere handed two more def eats thesebeing at the hands of Branstro~s IceCream of Mishawaka, score 30 to 2 7and the Westminster, score 43-3 2. Thedefeat by Branstons gives us a gamea piece and the tie-off will be playedthe 1st of February. The Turners are not the type of ballplayers to give up, not by a long shot. After a three game losing streak, a littlemore spark was added and the result,Turners marked up a double victory onJ anuary 10th and 11th. The first ·victimwas the River Park Boosters who,I might say, put up a brilliant battletil the final whistle denoted the end ofthe game. Usually a ball game producesat least one hero. Well, we harl one ineach of the winning games.
