Unlike past plays, this isbrand new, having just opened on theNew York Stage this month. So, as ithas not been released for production, wewill be the first in this vicinity so favored.Do not let yourself be misled by thetitle. It is not a historical drama. Thelines and situations throughout arepacked with laughs, leading to a climaxwhich will leave you rolling in theaisles.Rehearsals are already under way, insuringa finished performance Fridayand Saturday, NOVEMBER 14th and15th.V. H.BOWLING HIGHLIGHTSShip Ahoy! Tuesday the 9th ofSeptember was when the Turner Bowlerssailed out on their 1941-4 2 Season- you couldnt say that it started witha bang - slang would be more like it- the varnish wasnt quite dry but withthe help of oatmeal, some slid way pastthe foul line - and gutter balls! -well,next years banquet is practicallypaid for. All we needed for a completeweek was a Symphony Orchestra -Jitterbug Vanderbeck sort of turnedtoward the classics - Wolf cant sayhe has never danced any longer -Gerard went flying thru the air NOTwith the greatest of ease - YoungCharlie Noble wouldnt even take aSOUTH BEND TURNERGYM CLASSESThe 1941 Season is now well underway with all of the classes steadilyshowing new registrations. This increasedattendance is heartening to meand I hope that all of you will continueto show the same interest. Our ladies class is the prize group ofthem all, both in attendance and enthusiasm- Keep it up girls! Berthahad a collision in one of our volley ballgames and what a shiner she has had.Emma is still razzing her. MomBogue is really tickling those ivoriesto make things more enjoyable. The Junior girls really saved myConga Line at our opening dance. Theycan step it off pretty nicely. BettyBogue should win any Sadie Hawkinsevents if he ever enters them. Can sherun! Thanks, June, for the scissors forthe First Aid Kit - hope your motherdoesn t need them soon. The Baers class needs some more ofour old reliables in it. Come on, men,and lets see you up there on the floor.chance as he said, one slip and skidand the rest of my hair would be allgone. Teacher Patthoff should havebeen watching very closely as he couldhave had some new and original exercisesfor his Gym classes. All in all,it was a great start. So far this year the teams have hadtheir ups and downs - that is, withthe exception of Schlitz Beer, theyvealways been on top. Dont let the namefool you, theyre still the HungryFive - Wolves in Sheep Clothing.Watch them blame it all on defense- the draft took one of their men, namely, Ed. Merriman, so they nowhave Frankie Pugh - I could be toughon that name. Now they are lookingfor another man - a Schlitz Beerdrinker - as they lost the noisiest manon their team, Herr Louie who leftfor a new job in Chicago. Good Luck,Louie.Oct., 1941The Actives are working in nicely, although they do like to take a fewrests every once in a while.Do you members have any childrennot yet in the gym-classes? If so, donthesitate to send them. Remember thatis one of the features of this organizationand you should all make use of it.Be seeing you on the floor.HOWARD PATTHOFF, Instr.BAS.KE TB ALLWith the Basketball season just alittle way off, Turner Actives and Juniorshave launched practice. We expect toplay our first game about November 1stwith the followina players lined up:Bob Bogue, Bill Hanna, Jack Hanna,George Pearson, Ernest Suddarth, JimmyShaw, F. Yuhasz and Ray Boxwelland Chuck Bennett, if Uncle Samdoesnt get them first. On the JuniorLineup we have Ray Baer, Harold Dahlquist,Jack Gardner and Russell andWayne Hicks. Watch Bulletin Boardfor dates of games. Hope to see youthen.HunkSecond place is held at the presenttime by that quiet, easy going KammsBeer team, Wolf, Koppen, and Fiedler(who is our president for this year) mustthink he has to keep his dignity - ofcourse putting Greening in anothercolumn, but it makes one wonderif Schlitz Beer is more potent thanKamms. Maybe if Polly would get inand pitch instead of coaching on theside lines they might yet dilute Schlitz. In Third place come Alexs Boys. Ithas two of last years Actives who escapedthe draft, Jack Hanna andChuck Bennett, then a brand newFUELCooperative Coal Corp.Call4-5557 735 Niles AvenueTurner, Howard Fairbanks, and GeorgePearson, the boy who hung around thebowlers last year with Hungry eyes, and, of course, yours truly. You shouldsee the shirts! Theyre the envy ofthe League. Thanks a lot, Alex. Heresa tip - put your dough on this team. The Goepfrich team is in fourth place- pardon me - Taube Printers. Butwhere are the Taubes? Surely theyhavent gone to Florida so early in theseason. They also have a new face onthe team- George Dehn. George hasntbowled at Turners for several years.Glad to see you back, George.Muellers Jewelers, a new name butreally the old Hoosier Beer stickers -Rudy, Hans, Penny, Hugo and Jimmy- all with more vim and pep than theyhave had for years - its a team towatch.Kuss Bakers follow along in line.Maybe farmer Bogue is talking toomuch this season. Wirth, regardless ofhis bum knee, has rolled a couple of200 scores - seems Sutton was ashamedof his 100 average, he hasnt shown upsince. Sternaman sure is trying hard.Strebinger must have bowled his 3 gamesto get in on the banquet. Heres hopingHausey gets to bowl more this year,he has a good start. Old Charlie couldcome down on the nites that his teambowls, instead of every other nite.Poor Hunk is trying his darndestto keep Hudson Motors off the bottom.HOFFMAN & BEUTTERCOAL COMP ANYCOAL OF ALL KINDSPhone 4-58912018 West Washington Avenue245 so soon in the Season. Gerard isholding his own but it sure looks likeMax, Happy and Tom are having arace for the largest handicaps. Theresno prizes for that boys, so you betterstart pitching. If, in passing Turner Hall, it soundslike the bt:ilding is coming dov:n, dontworry. In all probability its the NEWCoca-Cola team trying to win a game. But please, please dont confuse themwith the last years meek and mild CocaColateam, for between the draft anddefense projects, that team just isn t.This NEW team has several new faces, namely, the sponsor, Chuck Williamson,Bob Koontz, Chuck Christman and goodold Speed who decided he needed moreexercise. Often wondered where he gotthat name, now I know. I m getting aslow motion camera to see why he missesall those strikes. Of course they haveOllie Niessen and Al Moss to sort ofhold em up, as they are all sponsor conscious, you know, coke fiends. Before I sign off, Im sure the entireleague joins me in extending a vote ofthanks to Augie and Popeye for thesuccessful season last year. Chuckand I give you our assurance to do ourbest to make this another successful season.H-, I was always under the impressionthat holding an office was anhonor - I ve been disillusioned!VGA.P.
