Description: |
These evergreens stood in McNaughton Park in front of the Elkhart General Hospital. This photograph was taken in January of 1978. It is located along the St. Joseph River and off of South and West Boulevards. The land was laid out as a park in 1887 as part of the Highland Addition owned by the Elkhart Real Estate Association. When John McNaughton gave it to the city on September 27, 1905, it was with the condition that the name be changed from Highland Park to McNaughton Park and that the Chautauquas be held on the grounds for at least five years. It is the citys third oldest park. |
