Description: |
The playgrounds at McNaughton Park were a popular feature for park visitors. Shown here are some of the crowds who attended a Chautauqua at the park. John McNaughton was so excited at the reception Elkhart gave to its first Chautauquain 1905 that after donating the land for McNaughton Park he made a provision that the Chautuquas should be held there for the next five years at least. And they were indeed until 1917. The Chautauquas in following years were then held at Island Park from 1918 to 1932. |
