Description: |
The race to space captured America’s imagination during the 1960s and early 1970s. Inspired by the Apollo program’s command and lunar modules, this toy allowed kids to recreate Apollo 11’s first lunar landing on July 20, 1969. Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin landed on the moon in the lunar module, while Michael Collins monitored from orbit in the command module. The Apollo crews carried out many experiments and took thousands of photographs that greatly contributed to our knowledge of the moon. |
