Description: |
Building upon the successes and failures of the Mercury and Gemini missions, President Kennedy stated “I believe that this nation should commit itself … to landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth” in 1961. This globe of the moon, made in 1970, allowed space enthusiasts to track progress of the Apollo space missions to reach and explore the moon. Missions for the remaining five years, through 1975, are charted on the surface of the globe. |
