Description: |
In Victorian times, the teapot was filled with boiling water in the kitchen and then transported to the drawing room. The pot was set on a trivet, a stand used to hold pots of food over heat, above a spirit lamp to keep the water hot. The tea was kept hot either with denatured alcohol or a candle. Today, tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world, with water being number one. Contemporary versions of the spirit lamp can still be purchased. |
