Description: This is a digitized recording of a dictabelt, which the Indianapolis Fire Department used to record dispatch calls during the 1960s and 1970s. Following are the calls on this dictabelt: 1) Caller asks for phone number of the fire station across from St. Catherines church. 2) Woman calls asking if her employee at Holiday Inn South can safely get home 7700 West Washington around flooding. 3) Caller reports her water heater is smoking at 2258 N. Dearborn, engine 21 sent to investigate. 4) Engine 21 reports that occupant of 2258 N. Dearborn was Rita Lloyd, and that water heater had over-heated. Issue was resolved. 5) Caller asks dispatcher to send City police to check traffic at Rural and New York, stuck on yellow. 6) Report on a fire at 1802 N. Tibbs, occupants name was Rufus Cline, owners name was Mr. Waskie. The cause of the fire was a motorcycle pushed onto back porch that leaked gas when engine was turned over. Fire was inside in the porch and kitchen and outside on the roof. Three 1.5-inch lines used to extinguish fire. 7) Caller saw a news broadcast discussing the gas overflow and reported a strong gas smell near the Texaco tank station at 10th St. and Tibbs at 9 PM. 8) Residence fire reported at 3101 N. Adams. Engines 10 & 21 sent to respond. Recording ends at midnight.
