Meteers men are the first colored troops in the area. When they arrived at the depot a crowd surrounded them. His soldiers are anxious to learn to read and write. Meteer notes seeing friends in the area. Since the railroad is operating the soldiers are receiving full rations. He requests money since officers must pay for food and clothing and he wont be paid until March. |
