Helen Porter Griffin playing her Peters & Cragg piano

Description: Helen Porter Griffin (1844-1940) plays her Peters and Cragg piano in her home, the 1817 Porter-Griffin house, in Corydon, Indiana. Music was an important part of life in both the Porter and Griffin households. Helens father, Judge William A. Porter, purchased this Peters and Cragg square grand piano in 1854 in Louisville, Kentucky, where the instrument was made. In 1976 the Griffin heirs donated the instrument to the University of Louisville, where it was put on display in the School of Music.
