U S vs John Reed

Description: On February 14, 1810 a recognizance bond was discharged against Jacob Pancake and Etheldred Bass of Knox County. They had came before Walter Wilson and were assigned to keep the peace and they acknowledged themselves to owe $100 to the U. S. Their debt is to be respectfully levied on their goods, chattels, lands and tenements if they fail to comply with the condition under written. They are to give their evidence against John Reed for stealing a hog. The hog being the property of Jacob Pancake. This bond is to be void if they give evidence to the jury. The bond is acknowledged before Walter Wilson J.P.K.C. on February 12, 1810. A recognizance bond was filed February 25, 1810 for John Reed and Thomas Jordan of Knox County who came before Walter Wilson one of the Justices assigned to keep the peace within the county. They acknowledged themselves to owe to the people of the said territory the sum of $150. John Reed owed $100 and Thomas Jordan owed $50. The fee was to be levied against their goods, chattels, lands, and tenements if John Reed did not appear before the judges of the Court of Common Pleas and answer to the said court on the complaint of Jacob Pancake. He is charged for the felony of larceny. During the March 1810 term of the Common Pleas Court the jurors for the U. S. on their oath present that John Reed, brick mason, of Harrison Township of Knox County, did on January 11, 1810 take one hog valued at $6.50 the property of Jacob Pancake, laborer. An indictment for larceny against John Reed was signed by Thomas Randolph, Attorney General of the Indiana Territory.
