Description: The file contains four documents related to the suit Pierre Roux brought against Pierre Peltier for debt. Included in the file was a court transcript; February 14, 1810 that stated on August 25, 1809: Dem $7.00; Judgt in Trial .20; Warrant .10; Swearing Witness .06; Courtable fees .30; Bond for appeal --; Transcript .33 Total $1.09 Judgment on trial in favor of Complt for $5.25 from which Judgment the Defendant hath appealed. I certify the foregoing is a True Transcript of my docket, Will Jones, JPKC. In the complaint filed for Pierre Roux, by his attorney, John Johnson, he complained that Pierre Peltier in custody, was indebted in the sum of $15.00 for the use of 34 acres of land with appurtenances of the house in Vincennes Township. Peltier had, used and occupied the property. Peltier was indebted to Joseph Edline (Roux his assignee). A deed was signed on April 10, 1809. Roux reported the debt had not been paid and asked for $50.00 in damages. In the bond for appeal, Pierre Peltier and Joseph Edeline bound themselves to Pierre Roux the sum of $20.00. A judgment was rendered before William Jones, Justice of the Peace in favor of Pierre Roux against Pierre Peltier for $5.25 debt and costs. Peltitire asked for an appeal. Signed by the mark of Pierre Pelletier and the mark of Joseph Edelwine. It was witnessed by Gen. W. Johnston. March 17, 1810 a Summons was issued for Joseph Edeline to appear the third Monday of March 1810 to testify on behalf of Pierre Pellitier. It was issued by R [Robert] Buntin, Clerk CPKC and executed by John McCandless, D. Sheriff with $.46 court fees for traveling 4 miles to deliver. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas 1807 -1810 page 240, the parties appeared and came before a jury. The jury consisted of Henry J. Miles, foreman; James Lindsay, William Lindsay, Liberty White, William Haney, Daniel Hazelton, Hempstead Bennet, Abraham Bruner, Abraham Decker, John Reel, Hugh Kelly, and John Bruner. The jury found for the Plaintiff, $7.00 plus costs and charges related to the suit.
