Description:	The file relates to Francois Avelin,dit St. Jules imprisonment and release for debt. R [Robert] Buntin, Clerk, CPKC issued a subpoena from the Court of Common Pleas for Francois Mallett, Vital St. Antoine, John Moore and Kirky (?) to appear instant before the court to give evidence on behalf of Francois Avelin at the suit of sundry persons. The summons was executed by C. Graeter with court costs of $1.59 1/2. Francois Avelin on September 5, 1809 wrote a statement of the schedule of the property both real and personal of Francois Avelin, dit St. Jule, now confined in the goal of Knox County under Execution. I have no property either real or personal in possession, remainder or reversion. Signed Francois Avelin. The third document was the petition of Avelin to the court. It stated he was confined in the Knox County jail upon Execution for debt, he owed Joshua Bond above the sum of $50.00; John McCandless $7.00; George Wallace $3.00; John Woodcock $4.00; James Adams $4.50; Gongaline and Joe $4.00; Michael Dau $4.00; Christian Graeter $ 2.00; Parmenas Beckes $4.00; Newton E. Westfall $.50; Fredrick Watson $4.00; Gobin $2.25; Benj. Parke $6.00; Arthur Jones $1.00. Avelin asked the court to grant him the privilege of the Insolvent Act. The last document was the court order to discharge Francois Avelin from jail. According to the Knox County Minute Book of the Court of Common Pleas page 196, July Term; the petition of Francois Avelin confined for debt in the jail of Knox prayed that the court grant him the privilege of the Insolvency Act. Avelin was to be brought to court the next term in September to hear the courts decision.
