It included the following: May 4 1837: cloth frock coat $32.00; fancy vest $1.50; October 14: jeans pantaloons $5.50; November 26: Balance on Coat $11.00; February 9: pair pantaloons $5.00 Total Bill $55.00 Contra Credits: March 24 1838: Cash $5.00; August 7: Cash $5.00; August 11: Cash $2.00 Total Credits $12.00 Bill $55.00 minus Credits $12.00 = Balance Due $43.00 Credit of $15.50 = Balance Due $27.50 Attached to the account was a letter. Prairieton, August 18, 1843 Mr. J. B. Martin Dear Sir: Yours of the 15 th is at hand. I am sorry to say that your request cannot be complied with now nor never. About 18 months since my son was thrown from a horse and lay senseless 72 hours at which time he expired-- I am truly sorry that you will loose by his death. Yours by Respectfully J. A. Williams.
