A summons is issued to the Knox County Sheriff to take to court Henry P. Brockaw, administrator of Stephen Striker. Stephen Striker is to answer to Margaret Maxell on a plea of trespass and $1000 damages. The summons was filed April 10, 1840 by W. R. McCord. Attorney for the defendant, Abner T. Ellis, states for the defendants plea and says he did not do as the complaint said and puts himself upon the mercy of the court and the plaintiff does the same. The defendant states as to receiving money from the sale of lot 39 from the heirs of Stephen Stricker sold by the court to settle the $7000 debt. He states that the debt exceeds the amount received on the $2000 sale and he has not received any money. Signed by Abner T. Ellis and filed May 10, 1840. |
