Description: |
On December 1, 1852 personally came Polly Ember before D. McHenry a justice of the peace. Joshua Gilbert and Francis Soudriette, both of Knox County also come before the justice of the peace. The court states that they are both indebted to the State of Indiana in the sum of two hundred dollars each to be levied on their goods, chattels, lands and tenements as bond. Polly Ember a woman of Vincennes Township says in her examination that she on the thirteenth day of November delivered a female bastard child and that Joshua Gilbert is the father of said child. The court orders Gilbert to come to court on the second Monday in March to answer to the charges brought against him. Joshua Gilbert comes to court and admits he did have knowledge of Polly but he also states that Polly was said to have also met a Bazel Parker in a private place. Polly answers that she did not meet Bazel Parker and that Joshua Gilbert is the father of the child. No decision was included in the papers. |
