On Nov. 18, 1806 John Grant comes before Isaac White, Deputy Clerk of the Knox County Court of Indiana Territory with a Negro woman named Vine aged 32. Vine was brought from the state of Kentucky. She is to serve John Grant and assignees for 24 years and John Grant is to provide Vine with the necessary provisions of lodging, clothing and food according to the degree of her station and at the end of her term is not to become a cost of the county. |
