Knox County probate record for John Hogue, 1847

Description: A folder containing probate records for John Hogue is housed in the Probate Records section, Box 44, at the Knox County (IN) Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House. In a will dated February 1, 1848, Hogue leaves the bulk of his estate (real, personal and cash) to his wife Katharine (as long as she remains a widow), Ervin his son, daughters Julian Kelso and Jane Purcell, and grand-children, Matilda Smith, Robert Sturges Smith and Lebenon Baxter Smith. The grand children were the children of John Hogue’s deceased daughter Eliza. An administrator’s notice published in the Vincennes Gazette on July 1, 1847 supposes the estate to be solvent and names Samuel Alexander as administrator. Also included are a bond, administrator’s accounts, and an inventory (goods, chattels, rights, credits and monies.) not pictured are numerous bills and receipts, including receipts showing that the distributions set forth in the will were paid. An administrator’s account (pictured) also reflects these distributions.
