The winners defended the negative side of the question.ALETHENAI NOTES.The Alethenai Literary Society met the firstSaturday in the winter term with twelve members answering to roll call. artist, Miss Naomi Coffey. A program committee was appointed, and the programs presented before the society have beenvery interesting and instructive.At the beginning of the term a theater partywas enjoyed by the members and their guestsFour new members have been added. MissInez McClurg, Miss Vivian Benson, MissRubie Curry and Miss Irene Ferguson.Miss Zelpha Burkett and Miss Edith Pro-vines, two former members, have visited thesociety.CICERONIANS-The big event is only one week off, but theCiceronians are feeling confident. One of ourmembers, Mr. Melton, has gone to Chicago toaccept a position in one of the High Schoolsthere, and while we are lacking his support, inhis stead we have the help of Mr. Haney. ThisHaney is a brother of the renowned Oscar andbids fair to follow in his footsteps.Many of the Ciceronian Alumni will be backfor the debate, but perhaps not as many asthere would be, were it to be held on Saturdaynight, instead of Friday night. But while weare not at all superstitious, since Saturday isthe 13th day, perhaps it will be better that itis to be held on Friday night. We shall atleast feel that way in case !DAEDALIANS.At the beginning of the winter term, theDaedalian Literary Society changed theirtime of meeting from Saturday morning toWednesday evening.The first meeting was held Wednesday, January 13, in the Public Library. All the members were present. The new officers were installed. Paddock now holds the chair, Siglerleads in the parlimentary drill, Knauth, aschaplain, gives the opening talk, and Lock-wood keeps the minutes of the meeting.The society has again taken up the literaryphase of its work. The members of the debating team and others have announced themselves as candidates for the teams of the interstate debate.PHIL OMA THE AN.The Philomathean Literary Society has beenholding its regular meetings each Saturdaymorning. The programs have been given enthusiastically before a full membership.On Saturday, January 23, Miss Voris gavean interesting review of The Half-wayHouse.On Saturday, February 6, The QueensQuair, by Maurice Hewlet, was reviewed byMiss Helen Briggs. It was very entertaining.Special music and current events were features of every program.
