Description: 40THE NORMAL ADVANCEtype that never care for chapel, that reallydidnt know there was a lecture course, thatconsider Y. M. or Y. W. a bore, and whoseunderstanding it was, that the Normal athleticteams always lost? There is, we are sorry to say, such a class ofpeople in this school. This same class is alsoever kicking about what a dead place Normalis. What is your candid opinion of an individual who is willing to attend a school for itsprofessional advantages but is too exclusive toassociate with the rest of the student body ?We withhold our opinion. There is in this issue of the Advance, an exceptionally good and interesting article entitled The Adventures of Average Boy in theWilderness of High School. It is an allegorywritten by Wayne Newton, of the TrainingHigh School, on June 1, 1914, when he wasfinishing his Sophomore year.It is of such a grade that we consider itworthy of honorable mention. If you havebeen in the habit of never reading any of theprepared articles of the paper, break that habitat least for this once, and you will, withoutdoubt, be amply repaid for your time.So far this year the students of the HighSchool have been furnishing practically all ofthe material for the paper in the line of prepared articles. We have no objection whateverto these articles, and we even suspect that theyare much better than many in this school couldproduce, but we would like to have some articlescontributed from our own student body of suchquality that they might also be published. If we were to label this, we would call it agentle hint.CHAPEL TALKS.We have been having during this term what,in our humble opinion, we consider some veryinteresting chapel talks. We refer to thosetalks given by certain members of the facultyconcerning some experiences encountered andimpressions gathered while they were enjoyingtheir vacations. We cannot understand why these professorsthought it necessary to apologize for these talks. It is far better to tell about something that isreally interesting and that actually happenedthan to take up the time of an audience reading an exciting climax from the dictionary orsomething equally captivating. Please remember that you are only doingyour moral duty when you trade with our advertisers. There is no student in school whois not at some time called upon to buy something. Then why not buy it of one of our advertisers. It costs no more, and will be of thebest grade
moreover you are serving the bestinterests of the paper.Who overcomes by force, hathbut half his foe.—Milton.overcome
