The cider-meet held Friday evening, Nov. 6, at ParsonsField was only a beginner for the season.While the score was rather one-sided, it did nothave a dampening effect on the spirits of thedevoted few out to witness the events.In the half-mile run, there were three entries, Shannon, C. C, Stiffler, N. Senior, andCarpenter, N. Senior. Shannon came first,then Stiffler, and third Carpenter. Time,2:29i/2.Next came the hundred yard dash and thisproved a little more exciting with four entries,Blake, C. C, Leech, N. Senior, Robinson, N.Junior and Blakesley, N. Soph. Again, theCollege Course, with Blake as its representative this time, came first, Blakesley second, andRobinson third. Time: 10.3.There were four entries for the broad jump,Hoggatt, N. Soph., French, N. Junior, Clayton, N. Senior, and Campbell, C. C. It waswon by Campbell, with Clayton second, andHoggatt third. Distance, 9 feet 5% inches.Campbell also won the shot put with a markof 40 feet 5V^ inches, Clayton, N. Senior, secondand Knauth, C. C. third. Stiffler, N. Senior,also entered.For the 220 yard dash, there were four entries, Leech, N. Senior, Robinson, N. Junior,Blake, C. C, and Munroe, N. Soph. To putit short and quick, Blake simply ran off fromthe others. Leech came second, Robinson third.Time: 24 seconds.In the discus-hurl, Knauth, C C, came first,Campbell, C. C, second, and Clayton, N.Senior third. Distance, 93 feet 5 inches.For the running high jump there were moreentries than for any of the other events. Henderson, Campbell, and Knauth for the CollegeCourse, Leech N. Senior with Blakesley andHoggatt representing the Sophomores. Campbell won it wTith Knauth and Blakesley tiedfor second honors. Height, 5 feet 2 inches.There were just two teams entered for themile relay, one for the College Course men, andthe other for the Normal Course. It was woneasily by the College Course in 4:12.The totals for the various clases were: College Course, 46 Normal Seniors, 15 Sophomores, 8 and Juniors, 2. Only one thing waslacking to make the meet a most successfulaffair and that was—spectators. While thefact that it was held on Friday afternoon andso interfered with pathetic discussions andlaboratory work kept several away, yet therewas not nearly enough of a representationfrom the student body. This is an inter-classaffair and every one who can possibly do soshould attend. It will help students to get acquainted with the schools athletics and unlessyou are acquainted with them, the variousathletic affairs are not nearly so interesting.In the meet, Campbell and Blake were the starsas can be seen from the scores. Campbell isan all-around man and along with him shouldbe mentioned Knauth, Clayton and Stiffler.Blake certainly gave a fine exhibition of highclass sprinting and judging from the way heleft the others, he is in a class by himself alonghis line.Shannon and Blakesley are younger menwho give great promise.But the Normal Courses certainly do needto come across with that keg, for the CollegeCourse done got the big end of the score andgone with it. Lets all hope they hurry upwith it.The basketball season will be open soon.Basketball material is certainly plentiful thisyear and there is no reason why Normal shouldnot have a winning team.
