The meet was closely contested from the very first and was only decidedin the last event, the pole vault. The rather cool weather and the fact thatthe men all wore rubber-soled shoes preventedany records being broken. The track in someplaces was actually muddy from the recentrains. The Junior class made a remarkablerecord with only two men entered. Fortner,of this class was awarded the championshipribbon, the speedy man piling up fifteen of thepoints gained by his class. With the close of the meet Coach Westphalissued the first call for basketball candidates, for Monday, Nov. 18. About thirty men responded and on the first day little was donetowards the real work. Coach Westphal expressed his appreciation of the spirit shown inthe inter-class meet and wished that it mightbe kept up during the rest of the season. Hespoke of the feeling that should exist betweenthe coach and the team. He made it plain thatthe coach cannot alone make a team. The menare what count after all. After this a lightscrimmage was ordered.Manager Wright has about completed theschedule and at present it stands as follows: |
