THE NORMAL ADVANCE49SENIORS WIN INTER-CLASS CIDERMEET.* I v HE first athletic event of the year opened■*- with the entry of seven Normal men inthe Boosters marathon, which was run onNov. 1. First and second places were takenby Polytechnic men. Hyndman, of Normal, took third, and the following runners of ourschool were awarded ribbons: Hemmer, Martin, Eddy, Fortner and Rightsell. The showing of our men was remarkable, consideringthe short time of training. The Boosters Club had decorated a cabwith the white and blue and when our runners came from the gym they were loaded intoit and pulled by the more ardent of the crowdto the starting point, Fifth and Wabash avenue. At the conclusion of the race our friendsof the Polytechnic school concluded that wehad something very nice, and would like totake a ride without paying for it, as is said tobe quite, common with some of them. A mildfistic combat was carried on down Sixth streetto Normal and from there to the barn on Fifth, and it was quite noticeable that Normal menwere always around the cab. The morningpapers said: It was hard to tell the winner, but several of the Poly men went away withblack eyes and damaged faces. Ask us. Weknow. The event showed us two things. Wecan do something if we will, and we can do agreat deal more if we would organize. Wherewere all of our men when we needed them. Not over twenty-five or thirty were out. Weheard that some of them were seen going theother way when things began to look interesting, but we dont believe it. Perhaps theyhad important business elsewhere. Stay withthe crowd the next time. Be one of the bunch.Wake up. Bring a friend.Training for the Inter-class Cider Meet nowbegan in earnest, under Coach Westphal andTrack Manager Wilson. Much interest wasshown from the very first and nearly everyman of any ability entered for something.
