50THE NORMAL ADVANCE.Athletics.The Normal football team defeated the CentralNormal College team at Danville, Ind., November15, by a score of 23 to 2. The game was spiritedand full of interest, but at no time was the resultin doubt.The Danville team scored on a safety, while theNormals made their touchdowns by clean end runsand heavy gains through the line. State Normalline up as follows:Collins, center Zetterberg, right guard Laurey, left guard Warner, right tackle Griffith,left tackle Harris, capt. and right end Spencer,left end McCammon, quarter back Spindler,right half Huber, left half Zechiel, full back.Toiuch-downs were made by Harris, Spencer,Zechiel and Huber.Collins kicked all the goals but one.Referee, Whitlock timer, Morgan length ofhalves, 25 minutes.The foot ball team played their last game withthe T. H. H. S., November 22nd, and were defeated by a score of 6 to 0. The game was hotlycontested from start to finish and is said to havebeen the best game played in the city this season.The return game with the Central Normal College which was to have been played here Thanksgiving day, was called off on account of the inclement weather.The foot ball team showed remarkable developments during this season, and it is to be hoped thata number of the squad will return next year. Prof.Kimmell deserves great praise for his efficientcoaching. The boys all feel very grateful to himfor the knowledge of the game which he so cheerfully taught them. . . |
