N.The College students of the Indiana StateNormal lead a life of hopeless despondency.Oppressed by overwork and weighed downwith worries, they furnish an excellent exampleof the cruelties of the present so called enlightened age. From persons of cheerful mindsand inoffensive dispositions they have developed into a class of pessimists, morose, dull, and heavy-minded. They look upon the happy,easy-going, prosperous Normal students withenvy and malice, and upon the teachers with afeeling of antagonism. By glancing over thefaces in chapel, one can easily recognize theCollege student by his long, tragic, care-wornface. One feels that he is not unlike the poor, oppressed Anglo-Saxon of the twelfth century, lorded over by the happy, easy-going in ormans, and ruled by a cruel, despotic Norman king.Sullen, cynical, and ill-tempered, the Collegestudent trudges on under his burden of workand worry, waiting blindly for something orsome one to rescue him from the hopelessness ofdespondency.—Louise Pickett.5, the College Courseheld its firstregularOn Thursday, NovStudents Associationmeeting of the term.
