Description: THE NORMAL ADVANCE51WEEK OF PRAYER.The week beginning Sunday, November 8,and closing, Sunday, November 15th, was setapart as a week of prayer for men. All of theorganizations of the Y. M. C. A. in all civilizedlands were asked to observe that week ofPrayer. The local organization was unable tomeet as a body because of the lack of Y. M. C.A. home. All of the men were urged to observethe week in their daily prayer. The organization hopes to have a home next term if arrangements can be so made.THE RELATION OF STUDENTS WORKTO BIBLE STUDY.In this brief paragraph, I wish to considerstudents -work in relation to Bible Study. Theprincipal objection given by students for nottaking up Bible Study is lack of time. Manystudents claim that they have to study on Sundays to keep up their school work. But, laying aside this objection for themoment, let us consider the profit of BibleStudy. The great fields of History and Literature are full of references to this great Book.No other book in all the ages has had such awonderful influence in the affairs of men.Lastly, it portrays the beautiful life of JesusChrist as an example for man. Surely no student should fail in his college life to becomemore acquainted with the Book of Books, and the Teacher of Teachers. Now, as to the objection that the studentmust work all day on Sunday to prepare hislessons for Monday. What would we say if weshould see a farmer work every Sunday. Whatif we should see the tailor or dress-maker withhis or her shop open working each Sabbath %They would say, perhaps, that they must gettheir work up for Monday. Would you excusethem? The student has six days for his work.Five school days, and Saturday, to catch upon back work. At least, would you excuse himif he wastes practically all of Saturday andthen works on Sundav ? Dear reader, we kindlyask you to think over these questions in aprayerful way. I am sure that you will findit a happy thing, at least, to feel that all yourwork is up on Saturday night and that onSunday you can relax, go to church, or enjoythe fresh open air.Y. W. C. A.During the past month the Young WomensChristian Association has been working diligently in its various lines, and as a result several new members have been added, about seventy girls are doing Bible Study and thirty-five have taken up Mission Study. The religious meetings have been well attended andgood programs have been given. A series ofthree talks on representative women of theBible, Rebekah, Ruth and Esther, proved veryinteresting. The WTorlds Week of Prayer forstudents was observed November 7-15. Ameeting was held each evening at the Association House, a different country being taken upeach evening. One special feature was a Japanese tete-a-tete on Saturday evening for theAssociation members. The Sunday School at the Social Settlementis growing as a result of work which the girlsare doing by calling, special music each Sundayafternoon, and an entertainment which wasgiven by Normal girls. Many things are beingplanned for Thanksgiving in connection withthe Settlement. The State Convention of the YoungWomens Christian Association was held atEarlham College, Richmond, Ind., Nov. 5-8.Seven delegates from our own school werepresent. Misses Nellie Wolfe, Etta W7alter,Gertrude Cope, Iva Ferree, Maude Julien,Alice Bullington, and Mabel Lovett, GeneralSecretary. It has proven a great inspiration tothe girls who attended and broader work willsurely result. The Young Womens Christian Associationis anxious to interest all the young women inschool and gives a hearty welcome to each onewho wishes to learn more of its work.
