Thefirst games for the inter-class championship amongthe boys were played Wednesday, December 3.The Seniors won from the Juniors by a score of 8to 6, and the Sophomores defeated the Ereshmen,14 to 8. Each class will play two games with eachof the other classes, and the championship will he-long to the class winning the largest percentage ofthe six games played.Following is the line-up of the first game:Seniors. The Sophomores defeated theJuniors 24 to 9.These games were very exciting and much spiritwas manifested. The teams play some very fastball and the pennant winner will certainly deservethe honor.The girls teams have also played two games oftheir schedule. The teams do not represent classesthe players being grouped so. as to get the bestresults.On Friday, December 5th, Yale Blue (MaybelleSteeg Capt.) played the Green (Linda Armstrong,Capt.) and won by a score of 15 to 1.The Crimsons (Bernice Pearson, Capt.) weredefeated by the Purples (Edna Huffman, Capt. 5to 1.On the following day the Blues played theCrimsons a close game and won by 2 to 0. ThePurples played the Greens and defeated them 6toO.Great interest is shown in basket ball this yearand a large number of candidates present themselves for the first team. The first and second teams are doing some very vigorous practiceand we are assured that there is no lack for eligiblemen for the first team. Manager Henry is arranging a full schedule of games and some of the bestteams in the state will play against the team.The first game of the regular schedule wasplayed with Hymera, December 5. The Normaldid some very swift passing and the visitors werenot able to throw a goal from the field. The scorewas 23 to 6 in our favor. In the second half Harris was substituted for Wellman and Beasleyplayed in Asburys place.The line-up was as follows:I. S. N. Hymera.Mangel Center AsburyPele Forward ZinkSpencer Forward SpearVawter. Guard BosticWellman Guard LadsonHarris Substitute BeasleyUmpires—Eppert and Morgan.Referee—McCormick.On January 24, 03, the State Normal will playa game with Purdue in our gymnasium. This willno doubt be the best team Terre Haute has everhad here and nobody ought to miss this game.Purdue defeated Yale last year by a score of 7 to0. Keep this date in mind and tell your friends.The Normal will have a complete track teamfor the Inter-Collegiate meet next year. WallaceStopher, the track manager, is arranging for anindoor pentathalon March 14, and probably a dualmeet will be held in May, besides the inter classmeet. |
