The natural features of the Normal Campus are most wonderful. First of all it is surrounded by Hedges
part of it is Woody, althoughmost of it is laid off into Parks. The waters ofits Brooks abound in the Best(e) of Herring andother kinds of Fish. In the lowlands grow Reedsand Rushes and on the higher places are foundseveral varieties of Berries. A Fox and a tameBair run at large while the monk is kept in theMonkhouse. The climate is such that the grassstays Green All Winter Long. In the center ofthis paradise is the old State Normal. If youwish to be Wise and do Wright you will enter. All your wants will be promptly attended to forwe have our own Farmer, Mason, Mirier, Carpenter. Brewer, Baker, Butler, Cook and Porter. You will not be barred on account of age or size. Our students range in size from a Pound to thesize of an Oliphant or Moore. The next session of our state legislature willconvene early in January. The legislative committee on state institutions recently visited ourschool and inspected it. The Board of Trusteeswill ask the legislature for an appropriation of$70,000 to construct and equip a building for thetraining school and establish a department ofmanual training. Manual training is becomingvery popular in our educational system, and thetendency toward commercialism makes it as practical as it is popular. The demand for teachers inthis department is so great that the necessity forthe proposed addition is keenly felt. An appropriation of $5,000 to secure and equip an athleticpark will also be asked for. The reasonableness ofthis request cannot be doubted. We wish to keepour institution .up to the standard and suitableathletic grounds has for a long time been felt asone of our deficiencies. We earnestly hope thatthe efforts to secure these appropriations will meetwith success. The student and alumni shouldheartily endorse this action.Society and Societies.YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.It is with some pride that we say that so far asrecords can be found, the Y. M. C. A. has hadduring this term a larger membership and alarger attendance at its meetings than ever beforeduring the fall term. Yet we realize that, although some records have been broken, there aremany respects in which our work has fallen shortand we shall plan for still more efficient work during the coming term. The Bible classes have been well attended andthe same classes will probably be continuedthroughout the year. It is the intention of theBible study committee to start some new classesat the beginning of the winter term.We are under obligations to the city Y. W. C. A.and indirectly to the Terre Haute Gazette for thespace given to us in their Thanksgiving issue. The following lectures given at the Sundaymeetings during the past month, have been of special interest: Rev. Tinsley, on Higher Criticism
Prof. McBeth, on Christ as our Example
Prof. Wisely on Why I am a ChurchMembrs. The association was addressed on
