182THE NORMAL ADVANCEUtterarpORATORICAL LEAGUE.Apollos oracle is silent! but Hope in Pan¬
doras box reigns supreme! Loki is still full
of his deceiving pranks, but Baldurs light still
shines! On the night of the twenty-fourth of this
month our debating teams will close with their
enemies, in two deadly fights. They are sharp¬
ening their broadswords and hardening their
coats of mail. All will go well with us if
Loki does not discover to the blind Hodr the
mistletoe bough with which to kill our Baldur. In Normal Hall on that night our affirma¬
tive team, consisting of W. W. Wright, H. E.
Stork and E. J. Hemmer, close in deadly con¬
flict with the negative team from Normal Illi¬
nois. When the smoke of battle arises and the
victors may be discerned, we fondly expect to
see our champions victorious, successful in the
battle. On the same night our negative team, con¬
sisting of Oscar Haney, William R. Fitz¬
gerald and William Grose, journey to Oshkosh,
within the enemys country. We expect them
to return from the conflict, each with an
enemys head hanging from his belt, each a
favorite of Mars, the war-god, each having
won for himself a noble place in the annals of
heroes. The subject for debate is, Resolved, That
Minimum Rates of Wages Should Be Fixed
By State Authority. One of our teams is
going to prove that they should. One, that
they should not. Both teams have dry powder
and expanding shells. Both are handy with
the bayonet and both are good fencers. Five
of the men have in times past successfully de¬
fended our school. The new man is good and
they should bring the Bacon home.Friends and fellow-students, if you wish to
see a royal battle, a fight that is a fight if you are patriotic and have school spirit, come toNormal Hall on the evening of April 24th at 8 oclock, and hear our men achieve success.
