THE NORMAL ADVANCE181StijlettcsTHE basketball season officially closed with
the presentation of the letters to the
winning men. The following men were
awarded Ns by the athletic board: Knauth,
Stiffler, Schenck, Wann, Royer, and Manager
Wright. Schafer, Carlyle, and Shriner, were
given I. S. N. monograms for their work on the
squad. The bad weather has prevented much out¬
side work in baseball, but with practically all
of the old team back it will not be so very
difficult to quickly select the teams for practice
work. A number of very promising recruits
have shown up at the practice held in the
gymnasium and there will be a warm fight for
several of the places on the team. The recommendations made to the Board of
Trustees for the improvement of Parsons Field
have been allowed and several changes will benoticed at the opening of the field to the first
game. Hydrants will be installed for sprinkl¬
ing the grass, new netting placed on the grand
stand, and the diamond filled and smoothed.
The athletic board is desirous as never before
that this school shall, during this season, pro¬
duce a baseball team that will land the second¬
ary championship and place the Indiana State
Normal School well at the head of Indiana
schools in athletics as well as in scholarship.
With this plan in view a motion was passed
authorizing the hiring of a special baseball
coach having professional training, but the ac¬
tion was opposed by the physical director, and
proceedings were deferred until a more favor¬
able time. The membership of the Athletic Association
is increasing slowly, and again it is urged that
each and every student pay his fee and become
a member of the association.Every great and commanding movement in
the annals of the world is the triumph of en¬
thusiasm.—Emerson. |
