Description: |
It has been a while since Dumont has written to Badollet, mostly because all has been quiet in Geneva; to make up for this Dumont recounts everything that has happened since the 10th of February (1781). Tensions were still high after the writing of the Edict; armies were primed and many citizens remained armed, even as representatives from Bern and Zurich came to assess the situation and the people of Geneva were reassured that there was no impending military occupation. The Edict was suspended and never acted upon, and as of the writing of this letter the Natives are beginning to regroup and campaign for its instatement in earnest. |
