Dumont to John Badollet, August 17, 1781

Description: This is the 8-page inclusion mentioned in Dumont’s letter from 28th September, 1782. Dumont begins this letter giving thanks to Badollet for convincing him to go meet Mr. Gaillard during his vacation to the countryside. They became fast friends while Dumont was there visiting, and in addition to Mr. Gaillard, Dumont was also able to visit Badollet’s grandmother. She told him that Badollet had fallen from his horse and broken his leg, which Dumont was sad to hear, but he still jokes that Badollet is too dramatic about the situation. He talks about forming an academy with Badollet where they could both teach—possibly in London, since they both know English—and promises to send books to Guiana (assumed to be French Guiana) so Badollet can learn Greek and brush up on his Latin, in order to teach both.
