Dumont to John Badollet, February 18, 1781

Description: This letter consists entirely of more political news. They are making efforts to avoid outside intervention, likely from France, in fear that interference could worsen the political divide, as the general spirit of Geneva is worsening. There was a riot the evening of February 6th (1781) that sparked people to take up arms, and Dumont can feel the revolution beginning between the two main political parties, the Negatives and the Natives. He went out with a gun to witness everything happening, and gives Badollet a rundown of the negotiations that took place. It resulted in the Edict of February 10th, 1781, which made all 3rd generation Natives (like their friend Sylvester) members of the bourgeoisie, as well as 100 who are 1st or 2nd generation, and it also gave all Natives constitutional rights which they did not previously possess.
