Salomon, Louis to John Badollet, n.d.

Description: Letter is unsigned, but the author is believed to be Louis Salomon; the letter is numbered 47 and appears on the list of letters from Salomon to Badollet. In this letter, Salomon says he hopes Badollet received his last letter; he has not written often because he has not had many good things to write about. He is currently staying with family, though he is soon going to spend some time at Gallatin’s plantation while Gallatin and his family are in New York. Salomon also writes of Badollet’s brother, who had an encounter with a colonel and a corrupt knight, and of several of their old friends—Massat, who works as a repairman in Charleston and has a wife and children, Cazenove, who is old and rich, and Boudon the painter, who was at Badollet’s father’s wedding. He spends much of the rest of the letter extolling the virtues of Gallatin’s plantation in an effort to convince Badollet to come visit him, though he does also make several kind remarks about Gallatin himself, as well as his other friends and even his servants. Lastly, Salomon makes a few comments about Congress and government, then the letter cuts off abruptly; the last pages are missing.
