Letter from John Harold Harris (1916-1987) to his wife Alice Clair Honan (1920-1986). Harris served as a U.S. Army cook in the Pacific Theatre. June 24, 1944Dear Alice,Well, I’m still at the same place. I have been working every afternoon. Night before last I saw a swell show “Up in Mable’s Room.” I am writing this at the theatre. We gather around 5:30 to get a seat for the 7:30 show. I always bring a book and read. I see that I don’t have to work tomorrow so I’ll spend a day at the creek or the ocean. Say, do you remember Byron Bluebaugh of Lebanon? He worked with me and lived on Parks’ farm. His brother left for the army while I was still at the A&P. I ran into him yesterday. He has been overseas for 15 months. I still can’t receive mail till I join my division so it is very hard to write. I read Gypsy Rose Lee’s “G. String Murder” and now I’m reading “Lightship” by Archie Benns. I’ll try to write an air mail tomorrow. I have the shell bracelet made & I will send when I can.Love, Harold |
