Description: |
Interview with one of the 500 Clarksville, Indiana residents who remained behind and rode out the flood in one of the 2 shelters set up in this town located between Jeffersonville and New Albany. Mrs. Montgomery describes walking through the rising waters, cooking for 200, the kindness of the pastor of the Harrison Avenue Christian Church and his congregation in providing the shelter, wood, and water and that of the local grocery store owners in providing food. Their location was across from the oil refineries that caught on fire. After the flood, Mrs. Montgomery and her husband drove around and took picture of the damage. The thumbnail for this file is one of the images the couple took.
