Description: Edwin Coots, local undertaker and county coroner, was asked to take over as acting mayor during the weeks of the 1937 Ohio River Valley Flood that impacted Jeffersonville, Indiana. As acting mayor he worked closely with disaster relief organizations and the federal government to provide assistance to the local population.
