German Lutheran Church

Description: The cornerstone for the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church was laid on May 12, 1912. Located on the northeast corner of Harrison and South Third Streets. This was the second building for the congregation of the Deutsche Evangelisch-Lutheranische St. Johannes Kirche which organized October 16, 1889. Services were conducted in German until 1954. In 1957 a merger with the Congregational church caused a name change. The new St. Johns United Church of Christ remained at this location until 1962 when it moved to its present site at 2701 E. Bristol Street. The building was torn down January 24, 1973.
