Concord Mall, pre-opening reception

Description: A pre-opening reception was held at Concord Mall for VIPs by invitation only on August 7, 1972, in preparation for the grand opening the following day. The Bob Ball Quartet provided music for the gathering and a variety of food was displayed around the malls centerpiece--a 40 foot high fountain surrounded by planters. The idea for the mall had its conception in 1965 and had been in the planning stages for many years. It was unique in its concept as a totally enclosed mall with a controlled environment so that shoppers could wander the stores in comfort regardless of the weather. An eleven day celebration with shopping sprees and door prizes was planned for area customers.
